What does being a preservation professional mean to you?: We feel that preservation is about maintaining the integrity of a building through use of proper materials and methods appropriate for the project at hand. This means that the workmanship should not only be in keeping with the original handiwork, but also it should outlast us. Furthermore, finding creative ways to bring historic structures into the modern era so that they can continue to serve the community safely and effectively without sacrificing their authenticity is of utmost importance.
Recent Projects: Front Door Restoration on Circa 1850's Farmhouse: Aug-Sept. 2019
5866 Athens Walnut Hill Rd., Lexington, Ky. 40515
Completely dismantled the front door, rejoined one of the 2 panels that was split using Festool dominos, stripped and primed all pieces, reassembled door and secured mortise and tenon joints with new wood dowels made from old growth scrap. Restored hardware as well. We reused all original pieces and used bondo where necessary to rebuild profiles and edges. Glue-up was done with Tightbond III.
Window Replacement: Oct. 2020
129 Barberry Ln., Lexington, Ky. 40503
Replaced windows in basement of home with new aluminum clad awning windows from Sierra Pacific such that they matched the original style, but updated safety and energy efficiency. We used Boral TruExterior trim and scribe fit it to the stone foundation.
Exterior Refinish and Roof Repairs: June-August 2023
301 S. Hanover, Lexington, Ky. 40502
The exterior needed to be refinished and repainted. There was no drip edge under the shingles and tops of flat beams exposed. We had the entire building softwashed, then had our subcontractor reseal the cedar siding and repaint entire exterior. Repaired/rebuilt window sash profiles and sills as needed. Added copper drip edge to existing roof and copper caps on front porch beams. Added copper flashing where needed to prevent further deterioration of facade. Refinished front door and restored hardware.
