2024 Hopemont Lecture Preservation Workshop

The Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation invites you to our 2024 Hopemont Lecture Preservation Workshop. Designed for preservation and public history professionals, students, and grassroots leaders, this half-day, interactive workshop will give you and your team a hands-on opportunity to engage with national and local preservationists enacting exciting change and innovation at our public history sites.

Brief Itinerary

  • 8:30am-9am-Coffee, pastries, meet, and greet

  • 9am-Welcome by Dr. Jonathan Coleman, Executive Director of the Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation

  • 9:15am-10:15am- Frankie Vagnone, Founder and President of Twisted Preservation and co-author of Anarchist's Guide to Historic House Museums 

    • Frankie Vagnone will be answering your preservation questions on saving and sharing stories and places, in conversation with Blue Grass Trust Board Member Dr. Daniel Vivian

  • 10:30am-11:30am-Preservation at Work: A roundtable discussion with local preservationists, moderated by Dr. Jonathan Coleman

    • Join representatives from local historic sites to discuss the unique opportunities and challenges impacting Central Kentucky's public history. Explore how public history sites can expand the stories we tell, navigate change, and ensure a more sustainable future. Panelists include:

      • James Clark, Executive Director, Ashland: The Henry Clay Estate

      • Billy Rankin, Vice President of Public Programming and Marketing, Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill

      • Gwen Thompson, Executive Director, Mary Todd Lincoln House
